Ipswich Bay 18' "retro" sports boat video

Here is a video sailing the IB 18 last Friday.
We had 8-12 mph breezes on Pentucket pond, no planeing action but some good sailing above hull speed, lots of fun!

She does move along like she's got somewhere to go!

The speed of this little sloop in light to moderate wind alway's surprises me.
The old fashion fractional sloop rig is very efficient at turning every puff of breeze into boat speed.

The hull is not especially light (300-350 lbs), she is marine ply and cedar strip planking with a light layer of glass on the out side only, but the shape of the hull lets her slide along easily and lifts the bow as soon as she has any real pressure in the sails.

I had designed this boat with a larger version of a similar hull in mind, a 26' sloop with bildge boards and rudders, this boat is unfortunately yet to be built but this little 18 footer has proved a joy to sail and great fun.
