| Two books will help.... "The Chinese Sailing Rig...Designing and building your own" by Derek Van Loan. a slim book that covers the basics quite well. "Practical Junk Rig" by H.G. Hasler and J.K. McLeod. A big book which covers the subject in much more detail.

| Quote:
Halser built long distance race passage making yachts (Jester, Galway Blazer) with the Junk rig, extolling simplicity and performance. Galway Blazer lost both masts in rollovers, and was subsequently holed by a shark. I think Halser did a lot of serious work developing a Western take on this Eastern concept. Certainly the Junk rigs seems simple, light and far less complicated than a traditional (for me) marconi rigged boat. -- Bill |

| Awesome thanks i'll go check out the books. My other question is, i want a very old fashioned looking boat with something of an aft castle look, But since i'm in washington and want to remotly stay out of the rain in winter that would be the cock pit. Any designs that you might recomend? or just easy sailing designs. |

| Junk Rig I have 2 friends sailing round the world in a yacht (Ell Lobo). and find it a very easy, and more effective rig. They used to have a standard rig, So they should know ! They have a web site if you google the name ! |
