| sketch rig A sketch rig is a cross between a schooner and a ketch Paulo.AS; I first heard it from Jim Young when he described his Bladon Racer trimaran with this rig (see second image) - first jpeg is a rough sketch of the 5.5's sketch. |

| Hi, different approach to an 18 foot trailerable boat, a bit more accommodation and a less radical rig, but should appeal to some. A design of mine published in Cruising Sailboat Kinetics by Danny Green. Originally done for the Cruising World design competion in 1981. David |

| nicest daysailers at the moment Not 18 feet but somewhat more: The most beautiful and fastest small daysailers at the moment: The Luca Brenta 30 http://www.lucabrenta.com/flash/lbyd.htm Or the somewhat more conservative Morris 29. http://www.morrisyachts.com/The-Morris-M29 It depends on your budget but if you have the money and the time for it you'll sail a daysailer that you will never forget in your whole life. Otherwise try the nice and always good Kolibri: http://www.kolibri-jachtbouw.nl/

| schakel Thank you, I had a Kolibri years ago, could not remember how to spell it and could not find it on the net. Mine was a 13 with roller furling main and foresail. With the main and a 180 jib it was a screamer. I remember it had a very tall rig for it's size. I paid about $100 at an auction and had it several years. Wish I had it now... Edit, found some pictures,, not my boat, but just like it. Look at the mast on that little bastard.. ![]() Edit #2,, Sorry to get off topic... |

| There are two boattypes called Kolibri Hi BHOFM Bald Headed Old Fat Man, Last time I saw you was a comment in building small wooden boat projects. But here is something different: The dinghy you attached looks more like a 420 which still is a very active and popular class. I raced in the 420 and we won so I have good memories to about them. The Kolibri I mean is a plywood small cabin cruiser that an awful lot of people in the Netherlands find very cute and attractive. I am almost 2 meters tall so for me it's behaving like a snake-man when I am in the cabin. Here is one for sale: http://www.speurders.nl/advertenties...40152306).html

It may ease your mind to know that in my design library one of the most cherished book is "Sensible Cruising Designs" by Francis L. Herreshoff. And I have to agree with you, there is certainly a lack of modern sensible daysailers. It remains in my "to do" list, but I was thinking something more in the vicinity of 24' to 26' Cheers

| 5.5m day sailer My Cox’s Creek Skimmer cruising dayboat, trailer sailer design in the making: 5.5 metres long by 2.25 metres beam (with two mean bunks under the forward cockpit sides) water ballasted for heavy conditions, otherwise empty, schooner rigged with free standing 6.5 metre wing masts and square topped fully battened mains, lightweight (120 kgs all up?) |

| skimmer Sorry, Barry I've posted a couple of those images before. Actually I've just come back from long boarding the inverted hull - will be painting in a couple of days. If you can use the fore and aft lines, go for it - I'm not precious about the design copyright. You could even enlarge it and make it an open 6.5. Here is one more showing construction, tensioned ply with glass and some carbon. |
