How much gear oil in Velvet Drive Trans

Hi friends, Just rebuild my Borg Wagner Velvet Drive Trans, I need to know how much gear oil use. Some toll me half of a Quart another one toll me just complete. With the trans fluid I dont have any problem because have a stick to check in. Please help with that. Another thing the boat its for sale Columbia 39 Flat deck. Thanks!!!

It uses DEXRON II fluid not gear oil. The level should be between the lines on the dipstick when warm and immediately after the engine stops. The volume depends on your type of cooler and length of hoses.

Hi Gonzo and thanks again for your fast reply, but my trans its a velvet drive in one part use fluid like you said but in the end when the gears was use gear oil. but that part dont have a dip stick and how I know how much. The other part its like you say between the lines. But thanks anyway.

Are you refering to a Vee drive?

no velvet drive thats the one the the shaft go under the motor looks like any other tranny but at the end take a curve to the back again it used for little spaces or balance. its very common in sailboat Cal, Columbias Thanks

If it is the one I am thinking off, it has a plug close to the top. It should be filled to the edge of it.

Hi Gonzo yes that the one but my have a old metal plug and looks that his there for a while, but if I could take it out, filled complete??? ok

Yes, if you fill to the hole there is still an air pocket left.
