help in purchasing 1st sail boat

I'm considering buying a mid 1980's 16' sea cat catamaran w/ trailer.
The F/G boat is in very good condition w/ jib and main sail. the jib is like new since it has not been used much. The design seems similar to the popular hobie boats but the hulls seem slimmer. I could not find any info about the builder and it's manufacturing quality and reputation. Does anyone have knowledge of this boat and manufacturer?
I'd like to use the boat on lakes as well as inside salt waters.
The owner is asking $1850 Cdn for the set-up.
I also have a couple powerboats (16' & 22') used maily for fishing, but sailing is new to me, any things to consider in buy a used small sailboat?
