defender 27

hello,
i am looking to second hand boats to buy a seaworthy boat around 8 metres.
at the first look this "defender 27" looks fine but when i look more carefully. it seemed ugly to me. in the plan view, it has a unnaturally wide max. beam, it seems that she had been designed under the influence of IMS rules. what do you think about it? is it seaworthy?

The D 27 was designed long before IMS; in the days of IOR. This general style of boat is generally very seaworthy, albiet a bit hard to control if pressed hard downwind in a breeze.
