| A sheet is the name of the line that controls a sail. The main sheet controls the main, the jib or genoa sheet does the same for the jib or genoa. A halyard will set and lower a sail and it takes the name of the sail, main halyard, jib halyard, etc. Is this what you are asking? Robert Gainer |

| If you mean how the sail is attached to the deck, that used to be called a tack line, nowadays we use shackles and have shortened the term to Tack. |
