Looks like the CBTF controversy continues, this time with a new angle, as it were. Good times.

I write this to you as we received yesterday an immediate press release from the CBTF co. telling their about evolutionary CBTF system which says:

"Stark Raving Mad will feature a variation of CBTF where the forward foil acts more as a trim tab and can be partially raised to reduce wetted surface area."

One thing they forget to mention here is that what they writing about is a blatant copy of our TMF system, which we have been working on since 2001 for Nicorette and other of our designs. The system has been described by Alex Simonis in Seahorse Magazine in the May 2005 issue.

Futhermore after Nicorette III we refined the system for the 90ft Nicorette IV (Sydney Hobart Winner 2004). The TMF ssytem has also succesfully been used on other Maxi's like Maximus and the 98ft Skandia.

TMF system was developed by us because we believe the CBTF system has one very big drawback, being the added resistance of the system in conditions you don't need lift from a forward appendage.

It is shocking to see that the CBTF co. feels they have to hassle the sailing world with all their cheeky patent infringements cases and at the same time start copying far more superior systems which have been developed by others who have done it in the interest of yachting.

Years ago CBTF experimented with a system using a retractable forward foil with a trim tab and they found it was very fast-and definitely covered by their patent. CBTF's use and experiment's with the "maximus" type system is more than 12 years old!!

edit: Not only that but if you look at the cover of the original CBTF patent the forward foil is shown with a trim tab! These guys simply did not do their homework and their "indignation" is laughable considering they just admited ripping off the CBTF patent. Of course they wish that CBTFco would keep those pesky lawsuits to themselves.

Or perhaps with a less biased point of view ,the other way around.
CBTF started the lawyer game and it now looks like it may be a game they cant afford to be in!
