| Atomic 2,I have a copy of the first article about it in Australian Sailing and probably the article in Seahorse; the Seahorse article had a picture of the upper wing sticking thru the waters surface like a sharks fin-painted orange so it could be seen.. Andy Dovell has filed a patent on his winged canting keel and has since used it on at least two other boats. ============================= The first I heard of anything like it was from Will Gorgen a great full size sailor and rc model builder. He wrote me about using it on his One Meter model around three years ago. It was our correspondence about that idea that led me to come up with the kFOIL for both rc models and full size boats. | MrK- What size/type of boat are thinking about using a canting keel for? Also, is it going to be specialized for upwind, reaching, or downwind conditions, or just all around good performance? |

The 79er is still not built, the existing (nomal fin) boat may be in to take the mould off it know. the $#^$ bottom of the keel is still a unproven design, and a compromise compared to the Dovell method. notice the Lord quotes and gives LINKS to designers wbsites when you ask him to prove a claim, guru by association. the workings and gears inside the sciencefiction kfoil would be expensive and take up more room, Actually i'd like to see some numbers the area blade you would need to stop leeway may not even FIT inside a bulb. Dovell wouldnt, 79ers wouldnt, prove the theory that they would Lord !@!!

A dinghy without any bulb will allways be faster.

the Kfoil system looks interesting but the wings dont look substantial enough to provide enough lift to counteract leeway.

kFOIL area In applying the kFOIL to any design it's important to note that you don't use the foils(foil) in light air so you design for much higher speeds and the area required drops considerably; that fact makes it viable....

@usa2 its a students project first of all for fun but it should be able to compete under orc club we will use a canting keel and wings plus an 18 footer styl automatic rig 7 meter long 2.5 meter wide with 0.75 m wings on each side keel 2.2 meters deep 25 mē main /9 mē jib 70 mē gennaker Renderings will be availibel soon Regards Konstantin

cool boat Konstantin, sounds like a very interesting boat; looking forward to the renderings. It's not clear to me: will you use wings on the keel for the extra lateral resistance or a daggerboard or two?

we're currently assesing diffrent ways - 2 daggerboards 1 fixed daggerboard 1 canting daggerboard called X keel or a wings at the keel we want to keep it as simpel as possibel but only if the performance is right so we're currently designing diffrent hulls for each typ and doing weight calculations then we will first do some vpp and cfd to compare if we're happy with one coniguration we might do some tank testing for the last tuning

No 79er Shorter by almost 4' but definitely headed in the same innovative direction as a 79er...
