| Yacht Porn I should have guessed...thanks. He (Bertho) took the time to respond to my small carbon mast thread. What do I know?...talk about a blissful life, it was so well documented, thought worth noting. I would rather build them than sail them, down deep, but the sailing is the best break.

| Thanks BobBill, Just Great--this is my first viewing --a beautiful vessel created by first rate design and most of all excellent workmanship. These detail building photos are always so interesting to builders such as myself. Two more great builds that are presently in progress are the Bluenose and over on The Wooden Boat forum a schooner being buit in Viet Nam. One item that caught my eye was the end plate on the rudder-I know the theory behind it but does anyone care to comment on why it is specifically used on this particular craft. I.E. is there some quark re this hull to rudder mating or something about the rudder itself that called for an end plate-??? P.S. Interesting he seperates Canada and Newfoundland-- must have been exposed to the old traditional culture of country equality there--Good for him for the respect shown A yacht is not defined by the vessel but by the care and love of her owner-- |

| viking north, thanks for all compliments !but I will never pretend to compete anyway with nova Scotia boat builder quality ( covey island who built Maggie B and farfarer as best example ) but just can't afford the cost to commission a one off there !!)... regarding the end plate, it's just to improve the somehow"short" rudder efficiency, to avoid lost pressure by the bottom.. thanks Nigel.. rgds bertho

| Ya John does good work--Tree of Life being his largest build to date until he completes his latest project--The Blue Nose-- Came very close to commissioning him to build me a bare hull back in the late 70'S/early 80's when he first arrived and set up shop here. As a very small builder at that time in Newfoundland i just didn't have the facilities to take it on-- turned out the customer bought instead of building. I was interested in that end plate as on my present and last build/conversion, (i hope, already got two intising offers) My rudders lower skeg attached end is above my keel bottom and i am concerned about hull/keel flow interference. I have been wisely advised by several on the forum to increase the dept of the skeg but structurally my hands are tied--so using an end plate to hold onto the flow past the rudder might not be a bad idea. Interesting "stuff" as they say back on the Rock.---Geo. |
