| Better positioning of the keel Hi, It would like to know which optimum point for the position of the keel in a sail-boat? This keel has 60 kg of weight and the Sail-boat has 5 meters of lenght. ------------------------------------------------------------------- |

| Two different issues to consider. One is the balance of the sailboat's helm, and the impact of the center of lateral resistance on that balance. The other is the fore & aft position of the boat's center of gravity. On most modern designs the boat's overall center of gravity should be 8/15 (53.33%) aft of the forward end of the waterline. Usually that means the ballast wants to be just forward of midships, but you'll need to determine whether the fore & aft trim on your boat looks right with that weight placement or not. |
