Autonomous sailboat

I am designing a swing-rig for an autonomous sailboat being constructed to cross the Atlantic from Portugal to America. The journey will take several months. The craft is 4metres long, slender and relies on 20kg ballast 1.5metres down. I expect to use a carbon windsurf mast and a high aspect sail plan, main + jib, the latter being about 20% of the area of the mainsail.

With so many high tech materials to use, what sail cloth should I use?

Do I use hoops or a pocket to atach the mainsail luf to the mast?

How do I prevent the leach fluttering and destroying the sail?

Will the sails need to have twist built into them?

Any help would be very much apreciated.

The best possible thing you could do is contact Graham Bantock at Sails etc. in the UK . He is one of the worlds foremost desiger/builders of rc boats and sails and has been involved in many special projects. He would help you and/or point you in the right direction.
Your project sounds most interesting-good luck!
