Are you talking about Herreshoff? Captain Nathaneal Herreshoff was a designer of America's Cup racing yachts at the turn of the century (1900). He and his brother John Brown Herreshoff opened their boat building business in Bristol, RI, in 1865, and within 20 years were the leading designers and yacht builders of their day. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company lasted until the Hurricane of 1938, when the facilities were largely destroyed. Capt. Nat retired in 1924. The Herreshoff Marine Museum exists in its place, a fascinating museum, run by my friend and fellow naval architect, Halsey Herreshoff, grandson to Captain Nat. Nat had a few children, and two sons became designers--L. Francis Herreshoff, very well know and a leading designer in his own right. He became popular through his articles in Rudder magazine. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff also designed boats, and I believe is Halsey's father.

The book "The Wizard of Bristol" is the biography of Captain Nat Herreshoff, written by his son L. Francis. L. Francis also wrote prolifically about his designs.

To my knowlege, there is no Charles Herreshoff.
