| Are multihulls eligible for the Sydney-Hobart? The Cruising Division Information Sheet http://www.cyca.com.au/sysfile/downl...5_cruising.pdf 24 A cruising boat may if it wishes not participate in the point score and simply cruise to Hobart. In this case the boat will be awarded no points. 25 Cruising boats may not arrive in Hobart prior to the first race boat! Thus whilst they may motor, they need to keep behind the first race boat if there is not much wind. Yep, it's my favourite motorsailer. http://www.deltayachtsbrokerage.com/...unboat-en.html Senario. Application to compete refused. On day of race, tool around in background, whilst all other boats clear the start. Chase them all down. Ignore paragraph 25 and claim line honours. Bugger off. | Do it Pericles, but make sure you are seen starting AFTER the fleet, then beat them there & claim all you like!!!! claiming you were only cruising & wanted to get some photos of the race but lost them somewhere & thought they may have been ahead so SAILING ONLY, must have got ahead - I am only a cruising yacht, Where are the racing boats? ![]() I like that scenario! |

| Awwww, Ramona, You spoilt the dreams for Pericles. He watches a clip of a gunboat doing 30k and overtaking a mono doing 20? at least 5 times a day ![]() Nice bit of footage and worth a look. Pericles posted it a few days ago somewhere - look up his postings for the past fortnight or PM him and ask where. |

| Multihulls in SH I'm afraid that if an ORMA 60 tri was allowed in the SH it might cause an even greater financial catastrophy than the one we're already facing. The owners of the 100' (magnificent) canting leadbellies would be treated to a first hand illustration of what speed under sail is all about and sell their boats-putting a lot of bodies out of work. Of course, there is a small chance that they might be so excited by real speed under sail that they would order big tris! But I doubt it....And even less likely: maybe they'd put a bi-foil system on a monohull designed for it and beat everything. But I doubt it.... |

| Seriously Doug, I love the offshore multi's (IDEC, Groupama, Orange II), but using the ORMA 60's in this case is foolish. As shown in the 2002 Route du Rhum and the 2005 Transat, those boats (ORMA 60's)would be very unlikely to complete a S-H. That is not what they are designed to do. |

| Multi SH Oh, I don't know. In this last SH an ORMA 60 would have won hands down. You might have a point in one of the boat breaking SH's of years gone by. It would be interesting IF this kind of competition was allowed. I think that a multi designed for the SH would beat the crap out of all mono's (in any conditions that a mono could finish) particularly if both boats were 100'. And what a race it would be..... Maybe some of the multi giants will start a multi Sydney-Hobart. |

| Would be very interesting. But if someone wanted a multi purpose (no pun intended!) Multi say like leopard is, I think it wouldnt be as quick as the racing beasts multis but still quicker than the mono's I'd say. But a big multi againts say a pure racing 100 ft version of a Volvo or something would be interesting, depending on prevailing winds etc. You will always have this argument as some people prefer the 'traditional' idea of sailing a mono? |

| Post 11 and the last post are obvious and unfortunate attempts to belittle the accopmlishment of Wild Oats XI. I have made a point to congratulate the handicap winners which is more than can be said about the previously mentioned posts-not a word of congratulations to the Wild Oats Team for their terrific-and rare-accomplishment. There is only one boat that finished the race first-and that is a significant -and worthy-achievement. It's a shame that some refuse to recognize that..... |

| None of us belittle or fail to recognise Wild Oats' performance (particularly those of us who have sailed maxis and Hobarts and against her crew a bit), but she is NOT the overall winner. It is a shame that some are trying to give the overall prize to WO and not to Rosebud which actually won the event. Denying that Rosebud won overall, which they did, is much more of a shame than pointing out that WO actually won on line. |

Is English your second language?. You know the intent. This is not a court of law. It is a place of idea sharing, except in threads such as "boat jokes", "drivel" and a few others where pontificating and general b/s is par for the course. Sorry Doug, felt I had to vent my spleen, and I have been enjoying your otherwise interesting thread. |

| OK, sort of agreed. . Try telling that to the media, if the last boat in happens to be the handicap winner - answer - "Sorry bud, in the can and ready to go on air" - Tough - The only race I like is the "figure-head" in Whitsundays - does it still run - with the best titted figurehead declared the winning vessel? |
