AC Cup again

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but it is sailing related.
Seems like the fallout within Emerates Team NZ is still happening with the removal/sacking/retiring of Mr Tom Schnackenberg(may be spelt wrong).
This guy has been described as Mr Americas Cup down this way,a memorable quote from Sir Peter Blake went something like...With Tom on the boat we can leave some of the computors on the dock therefore saving wieght which is an advantage no one else has.....Hes got a brain the size of the planet.
Both sides of this fallout are remaining mute on all aspects of the situation.
What do you reackon,is it a melt down within the team or is there a whole new direction being applied to the campaign that TS cant or wont be involved in?
All speculation I know, but sometimes that can be fun and truths are uncovered.

Schnak, Coutts, and Peterson all on the sideline. Sounds like it could be the heart of a pretty impressive team.

Oh yeah, it already was, in 1995...

Toss in Cayard, Pepper, etc and you might just win it for whatever club would pony up the bucks. Too bad the rules don't allow that.

Contracts for future Cup events, if there will ever be another, should probably be crafted to ensure payment guarantees for those who are dumped without the recourse of joining another syndicate.

Coutts will win his case. You can not retroactively change a contract to forbid joining another syndicate and that is what happened to him. Becides that an AC without Coutts is like a golf tournement without Tiger Woods. At a certain point the atheletes rule the competition. That is when the competitions become worth watching. I would be looking at Koch. What is he doing about contracts for future Cup events? Anyway, why is this on a boat design forum. Shouldn't you be chatting about this on Sailing Anarchy. Oh yea the editor (no he is not me) is on record as disliking Coutts. It is almost like he is compensated to not like him. Isn't it. Well please - rock and roll on Sailing Anarchy. Tell them mighetto sent you

Nationalism

I hate the corporate non-nationalistic emphasis of the new Cup; I put my faith in the old adage"this too shall pass". I only hope the Cup doesn't go down the drain --wasting talent and using outdated technology--- first...
And shame on TNZ who I have supported since Blake and who now has disgraced themselves by ditching Schnack.....

Although Schnaks demise is somewhat strange and still no-one is talking it seems to be pretty amicable.Perhaps we are reading to much into it and getting caught up in the AC hype etc.Schnaks may have decided enough is enough and is putting his mind to work in other fields.Whatever the case may be he has surely added to many campaigns and probably will in the future...we will probably never know due to his understated personality. For me he will be sadly missed not only for his brilliance but also his dry sense of humour and wit.
