Elvstrom Trapez Dinghy

Yes, thought it was boat from downunder...has the look. Needs trapeze though it looks not to have been set up for them. I suppose one could have great fun with slightly smaller sail(s). I would sail it with a main and asymmetric spinnaker like the RS 100 but then again, why not go as original or as Contender?

Is the mast grooved or tracked?

Wonder if sails still being made, as it appears class evolved into Contender class which has many fleets and well deserved reputation as fast racing machine? May be candidate for small dagger board foil.

I too found this rigging link under Elvstrom Trapeze Dinghy http://www.boatkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx...lvstrom-Dinghy

Here is more http://www.google.com/#hl=en&expIds=...fa48930cd2b7df

You may have boat from original mold but set up for double handling, cat or sloop for sure.

Quite the boat for $250. Double that and add time, and voila, a sailor. Love it.

trapeeze dinghy

Hey,Michael,
Where in the world did you find that Scandanavian dinghy in texas?I would love to Know the history.I bought a British made Osprey over near Austin and sailed it for six years-great boat.Let me know if you need any help renovating or re-rigging,sounds like a great project.
P.s.-took my flattie out again last friday on lake palestine, wind 18-25-only other boat out was a Hunter 27 under double reefed main.Still want to get you out to see how she performs with two onboard.

I inquired about the history also. I bet the boat has some interesting stories. However, I could not find much.

My cousin found the boat in an estate sale. The son was selling his father's boat and did not seem to know much about the boat. It appeared the father had been the owner/operator of an appliance repair shop. Sorry, that's about all i found.

Help with Setup and Identification

Hi Michael,

Got your mail, had this boat, fixed it up sailed it only a few times and sold it a while back.

Its like a racecar engine fitted to a baby stoller,

The sail is huge and drives the dinghy quite fast.

Original Post restored from Boatkb.com

The pieces are labeled
A. Pulleys
B. Elvstrom Rachet Block, not to sure where this goes or what it
attaches to. (Revised attaches onto H)
C.Main Sheet System, again have tried to attach it to the Bow and the
track but not sure. (See Pictures)
D. I presume this is part of the main sheet pulley system. (Correct)
E. The longest rope, I presumed it was connected to the track holding
the sheet pulley system.(See Pictures)
F. I think this is for attaching the trapeze. (Correct. Attaches to the nappy and one of the Lines from the mast)
G. Elvstrom Self Bailers. I know what these are for.
H. Not sure what these are or what they are for. (These are for the Main Ratchet and keeps it in place to allow the boom to swing out as you let it)
I. Main Sheet track.
J. Not to sure what these are called, but I presume they are for rope
but which ones. (Never used them)
K. Cleats, again not too sure which ropes go though here. Boom Vang cleats
L. Missing from the picture but above the main sheet track, Cleats, again not too sure which ropes go though here. Boom Vang cleats
M. Bow hooks for the main sheet pulleys.
N. 4 short ropes in total either side of the transom, but to not know
what they are for. (As far as I know these were to hold onto as you leaned back, they have a hole at the end presumabley for a piece of wood)

Regards
Sean

Elvstrom Trapez Dinghy

Hey thanks...you get a line on extra sail, let me know, please?

I guess the above answers lots of questions about rig. Might have to add that beam deck for stiffness.

Trapezjolle

hi
it is a design from the best of all: Paul Elvstrom called simply "trapez", around 1960.
I have sailed one of these more than 30 years. lots of joy.
takes of very easy and is very nice to sail singlehanded in trapez.
two handed with spinnacker it is really fast.
singlehanded with spinnacker its furious - for brief moments.
simple good handling, easy recovering after capzise simply a true Elvstrom.
watch out for delamination in hull.

hi again
did not notice all the earlier answers, but like to add one thing.
I have often rigged the boat standing in it in water.
Set both shrouds, put a line from the forestay trough the front handle and hold it between your teeth , then stand as abaft as possible and lift the mast, put the foot in place and raise it press it forwards against the shrouds wich are a bit abaft.
tighten the line from the forestay and fasten it.
of course you have to watch your balance under the procedure.
the go forward, sit one leg over each bow and set the forestay in its place.
In my opinion neither forestay, shrouds or the diamond should be very hard set.
