Yellowfin call their product "Variable Surface Drive" VSD. It is not fully immersed, only one blade is in the water at one time and units are mounted in pairs through the transom. Of course. if the boat were huge, four could be mounted.
They offer a complete package including engines, so a boat has to be designed to use them, but that's pretty much the case for all systems of propulsion. That's why the description of variable pitch propeller does not apply. The advantage of using fewer horsepower to achieve high speed in comparison with stern drives or waterjets, means lower running costs. I look forward to seeing their first production launch in conjunction with their chosen business partners.
Should be some time this summer.
