I just bought a 1969 Chris Craft Lancer. It has 270 outdrives and I want to upgrade to outdrives that have power trim. Am I being practical or should I have myself committed?

Not really. Do you want to trade yours in?

Gonzo:. I found my leak! It's comming from my starboard shift cable, at the end of the hose where it goes into the red cable. Is there a way to fix that without R&Ring the cable, something easy?

The hose has a threaded fitting at the end that goes into the transom shield. It is kind of difficult to unscrew it. Most likely there is corrosion. I would try penetrating oil.

the leak is at the end of the hose where it mates to the red cable housing that leads to the helms, not in the hose itself. Is the problem there or in the outdrive? Is there a boot in the outdrive that is suspect?

It is a direct replacement. The voltage is higer, so if you have 7mm cables change them to 8mm silicon type.

Are you talking of marine wrecking yards? Automotive distributors are not spark protected and have the wrong advance curve.
