Well Jack I reckon you may have hit the nail on the head there. She'll be right should be the title of our national anthem.
Sorry Gonzo you're guessing. I belive that the Sea Rescue figures were compiled at out governments request to provide a reason for introducing the Skippers Ticket. One of the reasons advertised by the government for introducing the ticket was to prevent the large number of rescues and hence the cost.
When the results were realeased to the public they revealed that most of the rescues were because of mechanical breakdowns. The course provided by the government introduced to increase government funds did not include anything about boat maintenance.
Back to Gonzo, your figures would only be valid if you knew the number of boats that were launched providing you with the percentage that are rescued. And, how many of the non rescued boats were serviced by a mechanic rather that people like myself who do their own servicing.
One of the strange things that we were advised as boat skippers is "check the boat yourself, don't rely on mechanics."
One would think that they would tighten up on the control of mechanics rather than boat owners. But wait, would they make as much money?
