| small launch shafting & drive parts? OK, at some point I want to build a small launch of about 6hp. Obviously we are talking about a displacement hull. Where do you get shafting, linkages, stuffing boxes, props, etc. suited to such small power requirements? What sort of costs are to be anticipated? Thanks, --Rob |

| They are all standard equipment . Sailboats have inboards of that size.

| Boatbuilders, pay attention Try this company, they sell complete power trains: http://www.vetus.nl/ It's a Holland based company, but I'm sure there are similar companies in the US. For what the costs. With an engine, control panel, fueltanks, shaft, propeller, bearings, gearbox, batteries, wiring, etc. a rough estimate would be €12,000.- to €15,000.- ($16,000.- to $20,000.-). But it depends a lot on what you want. There are several boatbuilders on this forum, I'm sure they'll be able to give you a more accurate estimate.

| I can supply you with all that. Are you looking for gas or diesel?

| Very cool Gonzo, you're awesome. Leave it to a fellow Wisconsinite. I don't know the power source yet, actually. Right now I'm only sailboating. But I love the chug-chug SOUND of low rpm engines, and when I find a bargain on one I want to build a boat to suit it. I'm not even certain of hull type until I have the engine. A listeroid would probably be ideal, but I'm open to gas as well. I do know that I want it to crank start so I don't NEED batteries. (I expect to be watching for one for some time, so I'm in no immediate rush.) Thing is that I've never been in the powerboat scene, so I don't know much about shafting and all that. Around here you can ask anyone about outboards, but nobody knows anything about SMALL inboards. Usually one can find such stuff online with folks' project websites. Not so common with SMALL inboards though. Just a couple steam launch guys that I've seen. No real small, low rpm gas or diesel engine projects. Please feel free to furnish links you've accumulated. Thanks! |
