Setting up Suzi df225 on GW208

This is my first post and I'm looking for some suggestions/input.
I have repowered a Grady White 208 with a new Suzuki df225 4 stroke w/ 16x21.5 SS prop. The WOT is 49.5 mph @ 5400 rpm. The motor is mounted in the lowest position. This is fully trimmed w/ 1/4 tank gas & just driver (light load). I'm concerned motor will be lugging w/ full tank gas & heavy load.
I don't feel this is properly set up and I am looking for suggestions to better my performance.

Hey Jim,
I just recently installed 2 DF225's on my 1972 Bertram 25 Flybridge --converted to O/B w/Armstrong "clone" bracket and beefed up transom. Having just read the Suzuki manual, page 10 states "measure engine speed when operating your boat at full throttle, under minimum load conditions". Also, you will see the recommended WOT rpm range is 5000-6000. So, according to the manual, your setup is perfect!!!
I haven't ordered the props yet, as hurricane Katrina has temporarily eaten my discretionary funds, but have figured the 16x21 props as the right choice for me...your posting makes me feel confident that they are the right choice, as my rig weighs about twice yours, when fully loaded (250+ gallons fuel, 4-5 anglers, 600+ quarts in ice chests, and more gear than my wife knows of).
I've owned nothing but Suzuki OB's since 1980 and have always been impressed by their engineering and value.....good luck and calm seas!!!!!

Hi, I,m new on the block. thought I might make a suggestion. your boat should be ran with a full tank of fuel, the basic gear that WILL ALWAYS be on board and your self. You should be proped as close to 6000 rpm with out exceeding 6000 rpm. Rule of thumb is 300 rpm per pitch change. (eg. 5400 with a 21.5 x 16 couldbe changed to 19 x or 18 x 5700-5800, if you went to a 17 you might be slightly over 6000, but you could have your prop cupped for more stern lift ) Even #'s I believe are S.S. only. pollished stainless will also allow you to run a larger pitch.They also make many different styles of prop. Don't be afraid to try a few. Remember prop pitch is your engine's max rpm. More important than speed. Good luck, hope this helps and enjoy your new susuki.
