Pisces engine Tell me a few details: Actual horsepower/DIN rating? RPM? 4 cylinder, naturally aspirated? Generator duty or propulsion? Injection pump European or Japanese? Facing the block at the flywheel -- injection pump on right or left side? What side are the manifolds on? Where is the alternator and high or low mount? Where is the oil filter and is it horizontal, vertical up/down? Any fuel filtration attached to the block? I am not sure what you need to know. I can think of two 'Pisces' producers (past and present) on the west coast.

Silverback, thanks for your reply: the engine is a 4 cyl. 67 hp installed in a 54 ft sailing yacht, located at the US westcoast. I am in a painstaking process to acquire this yacht, however, the engine is totalyy unfamiliar to us in Holland. As far as I can see is the injection pump on the left side, the oilfilter I cannot see, and the manifold is, I believe, on the right side. I have a picture of this engine as it is installed in the boat. What I want to know is: is it a current engine, or an old one that is no more in production - are there parts available and what might be the brand of the basic block: is it Japanese (Mitsubishi etc.) or truly American. attached is a picture; your opinion very welcome!

You are surrounded by these base engines in the Netherlands. The company that sold these engines is not in business. They were sold for propulsion and generator sets. The base engine is the Peugeot Indenor, XD2 2.3 liter. It is the early version --- note the clamps holding in the injectors. The later XD2 and all 2.5 liter ( XD3 ) had screw in injectors. I have seen XD2 engines listed at 2.5 liters on the Internet - a mistake. It has a 6 bolt crank and originally had a 96 tooth ring gear. Keep in mind, the ring gear and starter configuration may have been changed to simplify spare parts for the US market. Should you successfully purchase this boat, you should 'count teeth' on the starter pinion and ring gear. The single photo is ackward to use. I see that the engine area comes with optional extra left and right foot at no extra optional charge. Looks like a Hurth reducer gearbox. Where is the crankcase breather -- removed for photo? The exhaust? Is it something like 'North Sea Exhaust System'? They are interesting engines. The XD2 was produced from the late 70's into the early 80's. The XD2 does not have removable cylinder liners -- bore the block. There are many parts available in Europe and cult- type Peugeot enthusiast web sites. Good Luck.

Ok, that explains a lot. Yes, I am familiar with the Peugeot marinized engines, not too bad and spare-parts are available and not difficult to find. Indeed, Vetus used to have this engine for some time in their sales-program. Today, the Japanese engines has taken over this part of the market. That this one might be an early one, as you already established, might be proofed by the fact that this boat was built in 1968 - this might be the second engine then. So, no headaches about parts - thanks a lot for your intervention!
