| I am a little out of my depth here but I have it that a 30 lb is equal to 1 hp we had this discussion before - cant remember when - but I will have a volt and amp meter on mine so we will be able so see exactly when i am on the water

| Torqeedo has some more info on that (when I remember right), but I think 40lb is already the equivalent to 2hp!? http://www.torqeedo.com/ Regards Richard |

| Minnkota.. I have the 30lb MinnKota.. It is equal roughly to one horsepower. Also depending on the battery you use to power it. I use an Optima 750 CCA Deep Cycle Battery. Lower CCA auto batteries will provide less thrust and wear out alot faster - Usually within two hours of continuous use.

| 750watts are 1HP. The electrica and gas engines have different torque curves so they only compare at maximum power.

| Less than 1 hp The 12 v motors draw way less current than required to make 1 hp. Some of the 24 and all of the 36 volt motors pull over 1 hp (electric). I believe my motorguide 109 is rated at 1.3 kW or about 1.75 hp. Actual power at the prop is much lower and once you start moving, the current drops off. For a 12 volt motor to draw 1 hp it wound need 74 amps not considering the efficency which would be around 70% at high load. Lets say around 90-100 amps. At max speed, 12V trolling motors draw about 1 amp per lb of rated thrust. Half this number for 24 volt motos and 1/3rd for 36 volt motors. This is rough stab based on several motors I have messed with. |
