Mercruiser exhaust

On my Mercruiser 3.0 installation, I noticed today that when in neutral, the exhaust bubbles are rising against the transom. I mean exhaust bubbling on both sides of the outdrive and against the transom. I thought the exhaust was to come through the prop, but I may be confused with another system.

Is this a serious exhaust leak, or normal ops when in neutral?

Thanks
