Merc Cruiser 470 - Stern drive type?

Can anyone tell me... I just acquired the boat. It has a 1979 MercCruiser 470 inline 4 cylinder (170hp) but I am not sure what type of sterndrive is attached. I know it is a MercCruiser. Can anyone tell me where I can find information regarding the stern drive unit. Thanks.

Jot down the numbers that are stamped on the drive (location anyone?) and call your friendly Merc service center. They should oblige.
