| Engine shut down I have a 95 Searay with twin engines. As I was running in the ocean I hit a good size wave and the Port engine shut down and the it would not crank or have any power to it. Any suggestions? |

| If it won't crank over, check the battery connections, make sure they are clean and uncorroded. A sudden flood of water can cause a corroded connection to lose continuity. Check the connection at the starter, likewise. Make sure the starter didn't get flooded with water especially saltwater. To see if the starter key or button is the problem apply a jumper wire directly to the starter solenoid. You say it won't crank and has no power to it, so I assume you have not siezed the engine because the starter would make some kind of noise even if it is just a click. Are theses outboard or inboard engines? On an inboard, a flooded bilge could flood the starter. But it probably would still try to turn, maybe even in saltwater. |
