From Old Chris in the UK

Ihave completed the layout for a propulsion system using a Lynx LM200 24v motor, together with a Sevcon Millipak controller and one of their compatible centre off ford and astern reversing/speed potentiometer. The battery bank is 4x12vx100ah paired in parrallel and two pairs linked in series to give 24v. My charger is a KISS wind turbine 12v and up to 20a output dependant on wind speed. The whole application to give auxiliary power for a 24ft gaff sailing cruiser. Given say 6hrs usage per week at 50'60% of fullpotential power, the remaing 162 hours of charging potential more than covers the usage.

Ido not expect to plane but the total cost of my set up is less than 2/3s of an equivalent diesel installation plus quietrunning and eco-friendly charging. The Kiss generator is particularly quiet and will not disturb neighbours!

After following a lot of links and reading everything I could find I was left looking at a car conversion kit motor which was not very expensive. About 1000-1500 GBP and producing up to 35 KW. The link for this is http://www.avt.uk.com/page10.html . I have to say that I have not used them or contacted the manufacturer only found this the most interestering or promising option. A controller to suit this type of motor and also not expensive Around 150$USD can be found at http://www.4qd.co.uk/

Hi Ragnor, yes I realsie that, but by putting together all the bits oneself there is a saving of about 100 euros. Secondly, asmomarine dont respond to email enquiries and if they rely on agents the mark ups are horrendous. Regds Old Chris

Ok, I was in contact with them about one year ago, asked for an engine to Didi 26.
Do you know where to find the propeller gear?

Low Cost DC Motors

Permanent magnet DC motors are available, low priced, and quite efficient. There are several suppliers of reasonably high output (fractional to several horsepower) DC motors, easy to find at robot sites. You do not need a controller, switching around 1,2,3 or 4 12 volt deep cycle marine batteries will do the job.

Last quote I got on the Lynch LM200 motor, and their recomended controller was $2000 motor, $1000 controller AUSTRALIAN. This looks like good value.

Just make sure you do your electrical budgeting correctly. It can be done.
