electric/hybrid propulsion for small ferry

    www.feys.org - Fast Electric Yacht Systems. The FEYS site has a lot of information on the individual components, properties and relationships -- high performance systems. Solomon was testing a 20hp 'wheel' the last time I checked.

    Is this thing going to run around the clock? If not, then why not a pure electric system with enough battery capacity to last a day's worth? It's quite doable too -- just imagine a big Duffy. Duffies go all day (8 hours) on a charge, and recharge overnight.

    Batteries would have to be replaced periodically, but it might still be cheaper than maintaining a typical diesel drivetrain, especially when fuel costs are figured in. If nothing else, electric power is incredibly reliable, and practically maintenance free.

    If I was responsible for a yacht club shoreboat project, etc., I wouldn't consider anything else.

    Thanks for the FEYS info.

    Yep... doesn't have to run around the clock n' am seriously considering electric only... not tight enough in the spiral to be sure, but 90%...
