Closed water cooling conversion and tran cooler

Am converting a 1970 Cary 28 to closed cooling. Previously was on Lake Erie and now going to saltwater in Florida. The Sen-Dure conversion diagram shows mounting the Transmission cooler either cooled with raw or the closed system. It was easier plumbing the closed system through the transmission and the oil cooler but I am now wondering if this was a wise move. Would it have been better to run the cooler raw water through these coolers? Would prefer to run the closed coolant through them.
Engines are chrysler 440's with velvet drive transmissions.
Thanks,
Mark

Cooling the tranny oil with the closed system will be the best choice as the maint is far lower. The cooler might have to be a tiny bit bigger , although trannys are easy to cool.

If you keep the tranny oil at engine coolant temp, 180F or so, it will last "forever".

Thanks Fast Fred,
Thats what I thought when I routed the plumbing, but now after reading the velvet drive manuals I became concerned because it stated that the cooling water shouldn't be greater than 110 degrees temp.
Thanks again,
Mark
