Belt change, 351 Ford, crank driven RW pump?

Any suggestions on the easiest way to change the generator belt on a US Marine, 351 Ford with a crank mounted Sherwood raw water pump? I don't have any literature on it.

Robert

If it is the engine I'm thinking of, you need to remove the bracket in front of the pump. In those types of installations, after you remove the bracket, tie-wrap a spare belt for next time.

It's a Sherwood P151. One bracket from the left side of the block where the oil pan bolts on, to the underside of the center of the pump. Once the bracket is removed, does the pump just slip off the crank drive, or does it have to be un bolted?
Good suggestion about the spare!
Thanks,
Robert

Cut the old belt and install link belt. This link is use for captive pulley in industry.

You can find the 1/2" one (type A or 4L) in Canada at:

Welllllll. I'm not so sure about a link belt that might have to spin up to 4200 RPM crank speed. Thanks for the input though.

Yes it can handle this RPM. I have one on my 5HP table saw with more than 4000 blade RPM. Ask fenner about that.

The pump is bolted to the pulley. You can service it in place.

OK. So, as I see it, there are two ways of changing the belt. Remove the bracket, and either take the hoses off, and slip the belt over the pump, or leave the hoses installed, and unbolt the pump from the crank, and slip the belt between the crank and pump.
Correct?

Regards,
Robert

There may be a bolt that stays hidden behind a hose.

Good point. I'll have a closer look.
