Ok the weather isn't doing me any favours. I have found a workshop she will be camping in over Xmas. Mean while in at attempt to keep the project going, I think the super light weight race spec, will continue to concern me in the area of damage. She also has a very large bow ballast tank in the front which Is between hull and deck and forms structure. This has broken up, probably from the earlier impact damage (railway sleeper I have now discovered). My intention is to remove the tank and stiffen below deck, then possibly replace the tank. The hull and stringers are within the tank. I am led to believe she has been laid up with one less layer than other boats by the manufacture.

Three ideas come to my mind. One is additional stringers, the other is mixing an epoxy filler, bonding a balsa core in the entire front hull, then glassing overtop. The third idea is a layer or two of carbon fibre. I would appreciate any opinions on this. I want additional strength for racing but with minimal weight. I have read on here carbon inside a conventional grp lay up isn't ideal but I can't find why now. I personally like the idea of balsa.

Thanks in advanced
