Jordan Series Drogue Alternative

Could using black plastic funnels tied to a rope create the same effect as the JSD?

Peace.

Sure could... so long as you could get the funnels to stay in once piece.

make 'em red funnels. Much more festive, and easier to see where the line is :-)

Why what's the point and you must have an ark to store all those funnels

CatBuilder's right- it could work, but you'll have a devil of a time keeping it intact.

The loads on a series drogue are enormous- several tons of force for the whole thing. The individual cones are not nearly as highly loaded as a parachute or a single-part drogue, but they'd still be prone to damage if they were much weaker than those of the JSD.

Don't forget the retrieval issue- which is, apparently, enough of a pain with the real JSD where the cones can squish flat to go around a winch drum.
