Surely you have not thought about South Africa yet:?: We have world class boat designers that specializes in metal boats, and builders as well.

As an after thought, we have some of the most treacherous coast lines in the world and nasty seas to boot, and our boats are designed and built to excell in these conditions.......

Agree, that SA is one of the places where to build proper boat in line with NZ or NL, but the boat to be build 64ft is under design of Swedish designer and I am in Spain and not all questions cld be decided by e-mail, the Netherlands location is very convinient for international/european cooperation. But further boat, seems it will be cruising motorsailer cat, cld be designed and built in SA, will see. Thank you.

I think, we should take another look into our travel budget.
Unless you make money while you are cruising, you may be dependent on a fixed budget and restrict the number of years cruising. You’ll bring on board only the stuff you really need and the rest of your possessions end up in storage.
If you retire from your job and consider living on a boat for an indefinite time, you’ll bring more stuff on board than a 12 meter boat can carry safely.
Assuming, my wife and I bring at least 3 tons of things on board, additional water ballast is for us out of question.

Nice boat...but motorsailer? It looks to me more like a medium to heavy DS sail boat. Now, if instead of just calling her a motor sailor those guys had used your system we would know a lot more about this boat.:)

Hi, you right about a lot of things to be load, 1 year ago our launched 50ft cruiser was loaded with 5 tons for 4 person. But in my new design of motorsailer 64 ft, big enough volume is for fuel, and waterballst weight is calculated not to cut the crew things weight. The water ballast is just add another some cm of draft, but give you more comfort on long tack. The boat is big enough for 2+4 persons, so we just keep spare displcement to carry the cargo and waterballast. The 12 m is surely too small for extra weight. Also as our waterballast tanks is "deep" tanks, we can control the stability and rolling period depends of weather and wishes.

imo water ballast is a great idea

guy i know built a 60ft FGL boat based on a dashew deefoot design

he built 1000 litre fresh water tanks on each side of the hull

apprently they worked wonders, although his pumps were too small so it took a long time to transfer

I found on the site of a Polish builder a design, called Antarktica, that comes very close to the ideal passagemaker, in my opinion.
    www.metalyacht.com

Alexander, are you familiar with a designer called Juliusz Strawinsky - do not look at the internet, there you will find Igor Strawinsky, the composer.

I can sit down till January, earlier I cannot get my boat away........ thank you microclimate of the US of A....... country of the hurricane.......

It is quite amazing, what you can do with all that space inside of the Antarktik.
I like the dual nav. station in the raised deckhouse, but where do you sleep while sailing?
Did someone already request a price?

Stefan, there are two seaberths positioned in the aft of the ship.
It looks like a good design, the interior well balanced, the rudder design must be a bit more sophisticated, but that's only a minor thing, I will receive the casco-price shortly.
It is a cutter rigged design, with lot's of clear deckspace and a large f'ocsle, fixed stst bollards, welded to the deck, - nothing too fancy - good in ice too!

    bravo Juliusz!
