think im "simple" (the1much)

From the Miriam Webster Dictionary on line:
Simple:
1. free from guile
2. a. free from vanity b. free from ostentation or display
3. of humble origin or modest position

If the shoe fits ...

i say shoot the f*ckers the minute they get on a boat
9. readily understood or performed
Simple solution, too. I have no problems with that.

With all the cautions about arms on board, etc., I'm all for aggressive self defense. Piracy is just assault and battery on water.

Not good news, but then again how much news & publicity led these fools to think they were immune from being attacked by pirates? Why not just avoid those waters?, It is not as if the cruising was an absolute MUST?

If the pirates have AK47's what defence can be made, those are real mean weapons and would out-weigh most US military toys as personal arms apart from a grenade launcher - which they also probably have.... as well as those "rocket propelled grenade thingies" what to do except keep well away - a cruising yacht just could not carry sufficient defences....

I know, its hard to carry enough to defend against multiple sutomatic weapons and RPGs. Look at a map, though; the only direct route between the Med and the Indian Ocean is past this coast.

If there is enough outcry (translation: if there are enough attacks on ships owned by companies with clout) convoys may be an answer. Big guns to protect shipping.

It is alarming... since water is an open and desolated place. I've heard other stories of piracy too... but what is the solution ? You cannot always have a bigger gun than the next guy ?

As for aggressive and radical self defense, it's probably going the same way as on land. Guy sticks a gun in your face and you kick the crap out of him, then you are said to be the attacker. Rediculous but that's how it is.

if you was a pirate ,,and all of a sudden,, other pirates and pirate ships were being blown outta the water by f-16's,,or a sub breached through ya,,im betting ya would lie low until,if, the pirate killing was over,,i bet ya blow up 4 or 5 ,,it'll all go back to where hearing a pirate story was not an everyday thing.

Many countries do not allow private ownership of such firearms. I think best would be a bolt action 30.06. Very accurate and would be good for long range sniping at pirates (much longer range than the those junkie AK-47 they carry). When you blow a few holes through their make sift armor they while they are still out of range they may think twice about trying to get any closer. A lot of holes at the water line should discurage any further approach.

Than for close range a 12 gage pump action shot gun loaded with slugs would come in handy. A few of those at the water line will slow them down. And several rounds of #7 will scatter real nice to make more than a few at a time of would be attackers hurt real bad.

Both of these are common civilian own firearms in most countries, ammo is available and they come in handy for sharks and other vermin.

Back in the old days the Royal Navy used to patrol the area on regular pirate patrols - any pirates got short shift and were terminated with extreme predjudice -of course these days the Brits can't afford to do this, the only country that can is the good old US of A! amybe if they kick the locals arse and tell them "if there's anymore pirate outrages well kick your arse, big time2 then something will happen, until then stay the **** away from the area!! simple

Long range sniping at pirates may look good in the movies but in actual practice you don't know they are pirates until they are fairly close - you want to go shooting up every fishing boat in the world as you go past on the chance they may be pirates? Don't forget in pirate infested waters all fishing boats will carry arms, they don't want to get jumped by pirates either!! You shoot up a boatload of innocent fishermen from a distance you'll soon get a few large government vessels looking for you! You'll probably hang!! No short range weapons that spray a lot and then total distruction, BUT ONLY if they attack you first! They won't do that until they are sure they will win! One bullet at range and they'll shear off and call the local Navy, see above!

'lubber absolutely.....................but you can't take on the whole world, some may actually be innocent! Come to see if your OK

On one ship I was on there was a Chief Officer (I was sailing third at the time) who on crossing the Atlantic if he saw a Yacht used to sheer towards it "to see if he was OK".......when I suggested (as a yachtsman) that the Yacht was OK until this 'fcuking great high speed altered course and headed straight at him - then he filled his pants' he looked at me rather surprised! muttered something like "never thought of that", but to his credit he did stop tring to frighten the poor buggers!! would he be classed as a pirate for wanting to check that the little fellah was OK? and blown out of the water!!

Conversly if he did show violent intent.................terminate the whole bloody crew, strip the boat and sink her!
