During the 21-hour overnight cruise, which traced the length of North Korea's east coast, some passengers slept on wooden bunkbeds while others were assigned mattresses on the floor. Simple meals were served cafeteria-style on metal trays.....................

It remains to be seen how many Chinese tourists will be interested in the new tours. With incomes rising, Chinese are traveling abroad in rising numbers, thronging tour groups to Europe, Thailand, Japan and South Korea, with a small but growing number also making the short trip to nearby North Korea.

Maybe the rustic charm will appeal to the Chinese, I'm no expert, just feeling sad about what I see over there.

That's a pretty incredible price. If all I had was $310 USD and I wanted to get away for a 5 day vacation, that doesn't look so bad. Everyone looks like they are really enjoying themselves at least.

It's not what were used to, but for some who have never been aboard a boat like that, it must be a very special experience.

...it is all relative to what we have ( or do not have).

These fellas would have had to save hard to put away that much money for 5 days. The minimum wage in China is about Y800, in Korea (North) it would be considerably lower.

We need to appreciate what we have more really, so much is taken for granted today, but times are changing rapidly, many will not be able to cope with economic times ahead.

I know many laugh at me for saying we need to be prepared, but there is unfortunately no way that the future can continue wasting goods and money like we have all done in the past. One hundred years ago we had 1 billion people, today we have 6 billion people and growing, common sense should tell us the poor earth cannot handle this growth.

Exactly.

This is a wonderful, once in a lifetime experience for many of those passengers, I would think.

We all love the sea, so we know how it feels. Imagine you didn't have enough money to buy a boat, build a boat or go out on a charter or cruise.

This could very well be some of those passengers' only taste of something many of us get to enjoy on a daily basis.

You don't need fancy stuff to have a good time or enjoy the sea (despite what my charter guests would say!)

Yep, it's in the article too

..... The ship slowly approached the dock. Then there was a great crashing sound, and the Mangyongbong shuddered. “It’s like the Titanic,” a Chinese man yelled. People pointed at the concrete pier — the ship had rammed straight into it, denting the front of the hull and reducing a corner of the structure into a pile of rubble. The captain, it seemed, was just as eager as everyone else to get back to shore.
