| world speed records (sanctioning body discussion) <mod note: I've split this newer discussion from the 2-year-old-thread at http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/pow...est-23420.html at the request of the OP of that thread > how can you set a world record with a sanctioning body that only exists in the US?

| There is only ONE world governing body for REAL World water speed records that are done over a 2 way run on the kilo, that is the U.I.M ( which isn't in America), the rest are not the outright water speed record, just class records, |

| Loosey, I can think of several things UIM might stand for, none of them particularly flattering. Would you share with us what your version means? -Tom |

| I thought the UIM backed the Salton sea record attempts in southern California as well as record attempts at Lake Oroville in northern California? |

| Doesn't open. How about just answering my question. Don't you know what it stands for? -Tom |

| That's the one 13AL They are the world governing body for powerboating, like the F.I.A is for motorsport ( cars etc) the UIM is the sanctioning body for an official world water speed record, no peak speeds, if that was the case, you would be chasing more than 317 mph, Also, nothing to do with Drag boats ! |

Yes but the drag boat guy could say let's do it in a quarter mile. and I have not seen a propeller driven boat go faster than drag guys.

Because, as it was clearly stated, the UIM is the governing body, and the rules say 1km, not quarter mile. |

| That's 100% correct and a flying km each way, the average is the speed for a record run |

| The UIM huh??? I have heard that name before LOL The point is speed with a prop driven boat and for now the drag boats rule.

| Yeah, they are to different animals, Sustained high speed, and flying kilo's is a different ball game, and environment as per drag cars and salt flat racing, there is only one unlimited speed record holder in each |
