What shaft length ?

The transom height on my Sunray SS480 is 20 inches. What length motor shaft do I need and is considered a long or short shaft.

All you need is the cavitation plate above the propeller should be below the bottom of the hull immediately in front of the propeller. If you want to go deeper you can, you almost cannot go too deep. Deeper will cause a bit extra unnecessary drag, but if you go too shallow, then the propeller could suck air or be blocked by the hull. Take some measurements on the motor and on the transom where the engine will sit and pick a shaft that will get you the right depth and fit. It it needs a longer shaft, get the longer shaft.
