What makes a passagemaker

I have some firm ideas about what a passagemaker yacht is, but it seems that everyone seems to have different ideas about what factors are required by a boat to be classed as a passagemaker.
I was interested in getting opinions of what is a definite "must have" on a passagemaker and what could be considered optional, especially from those designers amoungst you.
