I don't think he has done anything so totally new. It looks like post 80 ies modern. All angles stark shapes.

On this I beg to differ, since as far as styling goes the vast majority of powerboat design features are repeated over and over ad nauseum(radar arches, stepped windows on deckhouses, three slanted portholes on the topsides...) and Wally's identity is very well settled

Saw it on TV last night 24 mil for it. I bet it dosn't sell. Now as the show states the guy is going to put palm trees and make his next boat look like an Island.

Ahh Will, Finally something we can disagree on. Can't really see the overall boat from the photos though.

What can be seen looks quite a lot like an F117 and looks good in the same way. In the dark of night when it can't be seen at all, even by RADAR. Never considered myself a ludite, but there it is.

There's no doubting that the avante guarde styling of the Wally(s), both sail and power, will not appeal to everyone - I doubt that they were intended to: In much the same way as the elegant retro-look of a Hinckley is more likely to appeal to a traditionalist than a modernist. Personally, I think both are fabulous looking boats. Both are also ridiculously over priced!
Tom, if we couldn't find something to differ on, what would we argue over when you finally make you way down under!!

Maybe so, but a Hinckley or an Elco still look great after 50, 60, 70, or more years, will the Wally do the same? I guess we'll all have to wait and see --

The test of time can be cruel, beauty and talent are timeless, whereas gimmicks have a definite shelf life. I have Billie Holiday on my Ipod now, who do you think will be listening to Brittany Spears in 2060?

That's usually the case, but in the world of design sometimes comes along a new "thing" that does stand the test of time, even if when "new" it looked outrageous or downright ugly.
Examples: Gerrit Rietveld cubic house in Amsterdam (10's or 20's not shure), Marconi/Bermudan rigs, the Fender Stratocaster (since '54 the smae thing)....

The debate between "angular" and "curved" when it comes to styling is entirely a matter of taste and fashion.... Think the difference between Lamborghini and Ferrari, which looks better?..

Visually, angular is masculine so it is not too surprising to see this kind of styling in a "muscleboat" type of thing. People will like to own things that they feel express their individuality,.. and sex.

I personally like to design things to cleverly blend and contrast the two in an intertwined way. Kind of like a yin/yang concept, not because i have a penchant for the androgynous, but rather to reflect functionality.

I like wally designs purely for the fact that he goes and does something a bit different and it does look good in it's way.

I do agree though that it is a bit too tall and wide (BWD), i think there was an attempt to pack too much stuff into the 64 feet. 19.5 M is not that long if you want pure performance and myself, at that length, for the type of boat that i feel it is, i would have stripped it way down to minimalist rocket boat with a bare minimum of comfort frills. But i guess there will always be as many designers as there are opinions.

As far as fuel goes, i agree with lazeyjack.These type of things are becoming obsolete just like the S.U.V. Although this is not at all a worthy example of shocking fuel wastefulness. Maybe we should organize a opinion cast of which boat is the "hummer" of the seas?

I'm all for speed and performance, but in clever ways, not by mere brute force.

My vision of a perfect boat is 60' cutter from begining of 20' century but for this design of complet Wally offer only what I can say: absolutely exellent.
You have to be very brave to put that "on the road".
