Trawler Designs/Plans/Kits

Hello,

Does anyone have suggestions on where/sites I can find trawler boat designs/plans/kits?

Is anyone working or completing a boat currently?

I am wanting this information and suggestions as it applies to boats in the 40 to 55' range.

Anybody's assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You might look at Michael Kasten designs - I don't have any experience with his plans myself, but I really do enjoy the articles he writes and believe him to be very very good at what he does.

You might also look at Ted Brewer designs.

Or another popular choice is Bruce Roberts
(Some people say that Bruce can be hard to get along with, but I have personally had a fine experience dealing with him, but just limited to talking about web sites and that kind of thing.)

Oh and you might look at Tevor Bolt's web site too

Oh and Devlin should also be on the list - they have a few designs which you might like.

Books of note

SeaWeed
Just a quick note on Bruce Roberts. I bought his book, “The complete guide to metal boats” and found it to be a good overview of building from a kit or scratch building from plans found elsewhere. There are also a few lines drawings in the back of the book. I am not sure if you are looking at designing your own boat, I recommend Dave Gerr’s books “Boat Strength” and “The nature of boats”. They have proven well worth the money to me. That is if you are looking to playing with your own design. Gerr has a good writing style and explains the math with examples, great for guys like me. Good luck 8Kts
