Transom replacement

I have a 21' Thompson and I've found the the Transom needs to be replaced.
Where do i start? do i need to pull the the engine?

Yes the engine & transom assembly will need to be removed. Also batteries, wiring and the trim pump ( assuming it's a mercruiser). The entire back end of the boat needs to be stripped and cleaned. Note : this is also a good time to look at the stringers, engine mounts and any area under the floor.
