| Hey there, did the wheel get unstuck yet?
If you're thinking about one of those modified hand truck kind of things that has a ball mounted around the proper height, they are intended to move pretty light and small boats. Duck boats, skiffs, row boats and the like, but your boat may be a bit heavy to man handle around the yard. If on pavement only, you'll probably do fine, but break a sweat. If on the lawn you'll have some difficulty doing it by back power alone.
A lot depends on how well your trailer fits the boat. If it has nice balance (you can pick up the tongue of the trailer pretty easily) then these trailer dollies can be useful. If it's about all you can muster to lift the thing, then you'll have a hard time of it. Shifting the trailer axle(s) forward a touch could help (launch the boat first, trust me) the balance quite a bit.
Personally, I use the garden tractor. My old one was hefty enough to drag my 27' Sea Skiff (not a light boat) and it's 34' tandem trailer around the yard easily. I got a new one and it just does a wheel stand when I put that much weight on it's butt, so I rigged a hitch on the front of it and this seems to work okay, but it does struggle with the Sea Skiff. My yard is full of oak roots and sand, so the towing about thing, is difficult with anything. |
