thru hull exhaust

im wanting to put a thru hull exhaust on my 1973 IMP Aztec (it has a 302 w/ a 888 mercruiser foot)...i dont want anything fancy like all ss or stuff like that.....just something that sounds nice and just ss tips....where is the best place to order something like this from....im having a hard time finding this...any help would be greatly appreciated....

I have no connection with them, just know they have good prices and selection of "standard" level parts and equipment. You said nothing fancy, so this would be a source for that. I think they offer no cost ground shipping, or you can go to a retail store; they are all over. Boat US sold all their stores to West a few years ago.

I have to say, it's way too loud unless you put some sort of muffler system in it. Nothing sounds better after an hour or two of running than killing the engine.
I have a 351w and a volvo drive; but mercruiser log style manifolds with the p-trap riser on the back - probably what you have. One fine day (circa 1977) the cast aluminium exhaust bellows flange cracked and wouldn't seal anymore - The solution was to plug up the original system and go though the transom with the trumpet ports.

Now the trouble is this: there is no room to do anything but put a 90 degree elbow tight to the bottom of the riser and into the trumpet if you want your exhaust to exit above the water line (which you probably want). On my setup it was really the only option without overly involved modification to the other accessories on the transom.

Since I just put a new transom and stringers in this boat last fall (speaking of overly involved modification), I'm changing a few things around such as battery location, route of steering cable etc.. , for the sole purpose of making enough room to change the location of the exhaust ports. I need them to be sufficiently far from the riser so I can fit some kind of a muffler in the line.

I really prefer the sound of thru-hull exhausts and am going that route again even though my new (to me) volvo drive setup is perfectly willing to accept the exhaust. Believe me - it has to be muffled in some way. All the yelling over the noise starts to wear on you after a while. Just my $.02.

we can help with stainless one piece hig performance manifolds with the correct riser angle and stainless mufflers as well. Not cheap but durable, quiet and lightweight.

You need the marine exhaust hose - there's really no way around that; but for elbows and tees and such, you can go to a plumbing supply store for cast iron no-hub fittings.

Used round stainless steel automotive mufflers? I see that they make them up to 4" in diameter for the inlet/outlet.

I have an IMP that I am parting out, and it has the chevy engine with thru hull exhausts. Yours is a ford engine, tho, right?
