Step Hull

I'm currently working on an outboarder runabout with a step hull for my university project. Now do anyone know if there is an other patent on the step hull concept than the one from Harry Schoell (Patent #5,456,202)?
As far as I'm informed Regal has no patent on their Fastrac right?!

Additionally do you know if it pays of to build a step hull shorter than 17ft? I saw that Regal has the Fastrac till 17ft. Where is the limit?
