Sony Levi Delta 24 information

Hi Guys

Can anyone help me with information on the above boat. I have been offered one to purchase and am very interested but finding it hard to find info on this boat type. I am very keen to get a Sonny Levi boat and this one is all wood, built 1974 with twin volvo 130's. Looks in good condition but have not viewed yet.

It is not a Delta 25 for sure!

Any views on this please?

I have a copy of sonny levi's "Dhows to Deltas" on my desk right now. Highly reccommend it.

There is info for a Delta 24D in it which might be what you are looking for??

Yes, I have both of his books (quite hard to track down these days, but available); brilliant and the inspiration to my possible purchase! It does have a paragraph I was really after anyone who had personal experience with the boat, perhaps in the rough waters of the solent!

Also if owning a ply hulled boat with teak decking really is a labour of love or once you have it straight if it stays that way for some years!

I'm used to fibreglass, but love the looks and "realness" of the timber boats; Italian at that!

Anyone care to throw some light or point me at a previous link please?

1974 is a long while ago, and a wooden vessel can deteriorate pretty bad within that time. Is it double-diagonal strip planked ? One issue with fast planing craft made from timber and ply is fatigue, where shock loads from sustained rough water usage cause the hull skin material to gradually lose its original stiffness, instead becoming spongy and liable to deform under load, increasing localised loadings and making the ride less than it was. Hate to accentuate the negative, but it is an issue. Would be less of a problem if framing members are close spaced.

If I remember correctly, Levi's "delta" hulls were all compound curves, which would tend to negate my previous post, as they would be less prone to drumming.
