Small Power Trimarans Has anyone run into any production small power trimarans from say 12-20'? Or plans or individual projects involving such a design? I searched the forum for Small Power Trimarans and didn't come up with anything that looked relevant. Thanks....

I have had an interest in trimarans for some time - but have not got anything into production as of yet. One we have been looking at lately and has some real potential is a small rescue craft. Otherwise not much out there - what speeds / uses are you looking at?

Power Tri Adam, I'm interested to see any pictures, designs or technical details of a small power tri used as a runabout with speed around 20 knots max using low horsepower. Other applications interest me as well...

Hi Doug Will get some details together, it maybe the rescue craft hull form could be along the correct lines - concentrating on efficiency with good load carrying and stability.

power trimarans Hummmm, just saw this thread. We just made a power cat from the floats of the L-7. With a 8 h.p. motor it does 12 kts. , with 20 H.P. it does 19 kts. Great mileage......at 12 kts. we are getting over 20 mpg. Power trimaran......I was one Steve Shiedler's powertri from L.A. to S.F. Fast boat, interesting boat, but I almost got seasick for the first time in my life. Power tris have a very uncomfortable motion on the open sea......even Steve switched over to a Power Cat. To see a picture of the boat......go to www.multimarine.com and look under used boats.....click on Eko-Cat 23. Cheers, Mike

It is an interesting website, Adam I noticed a small pic of a boat that was reminiscent of a dive boat that I saw many years back, in Queensland, Australia. It was unlike anything I'd seen before. My recollection was that it was designed by a Chequoslavakian. This one was about 65ft long. I'll try and dig up my old pics and post them Sorry Doug - not trying to pinch your thread I assume you've looked at "The Application of Slender Hull technology in both Power and Leisure Craft" by Nigel Irens. It doesn't specifically cover tri's, but does discuss multihulls in the general sense

This was actually a prototype high effiiciency hull form as developed by Erbil Serter we designed this version for him and Advanced Boat Construction. Very interesting project and a shame it did not go further. The hull was approx 11M and was incrediably well behaved and efficient upto about 28knots. Certainly had the potential for more speed but some changes would have been necessary to the hull lines as some 'hook' was built into the aft sections.

As a follow up to previous thread - we are still looking at developing a triamaran hull form - but so far this year customer projects (mainly RIBs) have pretty much taken over. Still good to be busy!
