Have you tried Cummins? They have offices over here. I normally talk to their Brisbane office (Darra). They should be able to help you. Sorry I don't have the number handy.

Willallison, I just have one thing to say. Stay away from tripple nickles, in fact I am suprised that the engines you are looking at are still around, unless they have had a major overhaul.

Lets just say they can really "Blow" your day. I love Cummins but I can not lie to you it was their worst engine.

Shame we didn't have this conversation a fortnight ago, Nomad - my parents just bought a 1988 Offshore 48 Yachtfisher powered by a pair of 320hp 'triple nickels'.....
Where does this lack of enthusiasm for th 555's come from?
Is there anything in particular we should keep an eye on?

As long as you have the ehgine checked perodicaly and do matience before it is needed you should be alright. Some are alright while many have had various problems. Good luck!

I,m really curious as to your dislike of the 555. I understand that they are out dated and oversized for the amount of horsepower but I always felt they were reliable engines.

VT555's

The Triple nickle was a great engine for it's time period. It was a wonderful engine designed in the mid 60's so they are not comperable with the newer engines. A great place for informatino and tons of opinions is boatdiesel.com. There are some good discussions and some great information on every type of engine.
