My dad is a custom boat builder on the chesapeake bay. He builds 25'-55' wooden bay style commercial fishing boats. Over the years he has built many 14'-20' wood flat bottom skiffs or row boats. They have a sharp bow with a square transom for outboard engines. They are a low freeboard hull design with a hard (square) chine perfect for rowing, outbord engine and a kilson for briggs & straton inboards. Great for shoal water areas. He built me a 16' in a day which I canverted easily into a small sail boat. These style skiffs date back to the early 1800's and have been very popular for water fowl hunting, trot lining and fishing. Somewhat heavy but easy to handle. Contact me at DEWEY.HART@US.ARMY.MIL and I can have him draw you a set of plans.
