Olympics Chase Boat

    Hey, did anyone notice the chase boats used in the scull racing competition? It's a catamaran with an engine placement forward and center of the aft and has a cuddy or cabin, not a very big craft. Have never seen one like it!

    Wow, how do you edit the title? Olympics....

    im no expert, maybe less drag, lighter ect?

    if they dont need a big boat but still want stability of a cat?

    Ive not seen it, got a piccie??? :)

    Sounds like a long slender hull, for low wash. Thus the WPA is low and you have an engine one end and the judge/crew the other end to balance it. I suspect they wanted the crew aft so that they don't get splashed, using the engine cowling as cover.

    Bloody copyright and marketing BS has a tendency to spoil information sharing...

    Those little boats have been around in some form for several Olympic seasons designed specifically for low wash/wake and camera carriers, but anyone who knows cats will assure you that there is significant disturbance following displacement / low wash/wake cats - - - Oh well . . . . . . . . :p :p :p

    Thanks guys, I just had not seen anything like it, I thought there was significant wake behind it as the followed the sculls, it appeared to play a safety function to pick anyone up as well as their boat.

    Looks like it would make a good inland cruiser/camper type.

    These are almost aways used by coaches for rowing teams. It keeps the wake low and provides low resistance. It only needs to go about 10 kts to keep up with the shell and doesn't carry much weight.
