Did you or did you not bring an offer from the church to me and present it in writing
Did I or did I not accept that offer
Did you or did you not receive Emails as legal documents showing a signed contract on my part and proof of payment
Did you or did you not in fact receive hard copies of those legal documents
Did you deliver the boat

after that who you sold it to is irrelevant
I'm sure they are wonderful people and that these poor folks are just as much victims as I am. All I know it i purchased a one of a kind boat and made some substantial modifications to my life in preparation of ownership. Basically I not only invested money but resigned my position with my employer. Long story short I signed and sent a check and regardless of excuses bought a boat that I never received

Jim if you have some other explanation we are all listening but lacking any reasonable explanation as to exactly what happened I think you owe me the Heida Princess as she stood at the time of purchase.

In all fairness, it's probably best to tone it down a tad (myself noted). A one sided debate is a boring thing anyway. This thread has gone on for quite a while and both parties have blame to share in the continued discontent here.

Specifics about what Dan or Jim might or might not have done or should do are now becoming irreverent, mostly because of the amount of time that has lapsed since the "incident", but partly because legal avenues of pursuit may be hindered by further banter. My participation has been quite limited in this thread. Initially, (after the outrage) my suggestions where as they are now, aggressive pursuit, while the iron was still hot. Then other then the occasional jab at the then unknown broker, which any reasonable person says with a snicker, to reiterate the force that is often necessary in these types of cases. In this vain, I may have pissed off a few, particularly Jim. In this I offer an apology, though you've yet to speak at any of the appropriate specifics (in regard to Dan's complaints). Well, you don't have to exercise the right you so gleefully mentioned in your first post Jim, but after the considerable discussion here and likely with others at your end, a swift conclusion could be redeemed with a few simple sentences on your part, possably putting an end to something that has obviously upset both you and Dan.

How about a simple exchange? You're business is all about people and boats. This site is all about people and boats. Can teeing up a few paragraphs as you see it, in relevance to Dan's concerns, be anything but in both your best interests?

Agreed but I think it rather unbecoming of Jim to so deliberately fail to address any of the questions I've presented in my last. One full business day later and he seems to have bailed out on us. I regret nothing of my frustration or anger but nor do I feel I haven't welcomed his entry into the conversation, hell I've been a lot more polite than I've ever been over on say the climate thread. So whats the deal, is someones position so week as to not be capable of debate.

No worries maybe now I'll get a response on my complaints from what powers may be interested.

Typically Dan, his natural position is to wait and see (and keep his mouth shut). At least this is what a lawyer would advise. What this simply means is he will not offer up anything unless there's a court order forcing him to do so, then he has two choices, provide the bare minimum of what's asked for or flood the SA's office with so many documents and bits of data, that they couldn't possably sort through it all, particularly in these under staffed and economically restricted times.

This is why very early on, I recommend you go public locally, in his area with this. Every TV and radio news origination has a department that looks into scams, frauds, under handed dealings, etc. They help old ladies that have been ripped off by contractors, etc. Your story would be a "fluff" piece or what they call "filler", but in most of these cases, they don't get air time. The is because of a few phone calls (from the news crew producers) the issue is settled, with the stipulation that it not be aired. Since their real mission is to help the viewer or listener, they comply and everyone is happy. The one's that do get put on the air are when the two parties can't come together and it makes for interesting "fodder" to fill in a news paper page or a 3 minute segment blank on the 6:00 news. Again, trust me on this, I've preformed this on more then one occasion and it works. It works for the 90 year old couple that bought a sick dog from a breeder, who refuses to refund their money, let alone pay for the vet bills, to guys trying to buy a yacht, that gets sold out from under him after the deal has been made. You have absolutely nothing to lose at this point.

Its going to have to be one huge gift fund. Over half a million later not including luxury tax. Its been set back after set back on this end, One car totaled and my alternatives fuel vehicle died on me about an hour ago. Girl is surviving her chemo tho and it looks like she will be fine so I guess the important stuff is all good. But no boat for me anytime soon as far as I can see. My lofting is pretty much just sitting there and my wood order I've yet to pick up as the delivery truck ( bio-fuels vehicle ) is now on the fritz. Two vehicles to none in about a flash. Its fast approaching time to buy a new car cause just this delivery truck isn't going to cut it even if it was running.

Yikes looking forward to things returning to "normal" whatever that is.

...don't hold your breath for the USA to return to "normal" mate, you are all screwed. The only good thing to come in the futuer is that the good people, like yourself, will return to making things again for themselves, and local barter and trade will result. The greedy bankers, lawers , priests and politicians will suffer (as they should) for the pains they have inflicted on hard working people, but it will never be the same as it was......

We're all screwed. The "rapture" just occurred a month ago and we're all still here, likely going to hell. Then again the space aliens that told the Mayans to end their calendar in December of 2012 is fast approaching so we all my be seeing our long lost friends in hell soon . . .

Actually if you want to get technical, only one of the Mayan calendars said the end of the world would happen in 2012 and if you're a bit of a math wiz, you'll quickly figure out the Mayan year 2012 has already come and gone, but you don't sell many tee shirts and bobble head dolls with reality, so . . .

not many people know that about the Mayan calender, or that it doesn't actually say the world will end, just about half the people starve and the rest wish they had. Dresden codex and all.

Anyway ya I'm on hold again till I get things back under control, great eh, one step forward and two steps back. Starting to wonder if I'll ever end up on a boat again.

Hello again,
I am so dismayed to read that no resolution has come to this purchase.

I have located the portable dentist's chair used by Ole Qualley in 1935 onward. It has not been out of it's wooden box for eons, yet I am hopeful that it will be an 'interesting' piece for current or future owner's of Haida Princess. Gary Nash asked me about the Log book(s), as he didn't have them. No one in the family has them either. However, I was just reading the pages from "Classic Wooden Yachts" by Ron McClure, and note that previous owners Mike and Peggy O'Brien say..."Her logbooks show that HP has circumnavigated Vancouver Island six times." I do not know if they might perhaps the original log books. However I feel that if they did, they would have gone with the boat when sold to Nash.

I will check here again to see updates.

New member here. First post. What a great find this site is.

My dad was a woodworker by hobby for most of his life. I asked him the same question over 45 years ago. He gave me a one word answer. "Torque."


Obviously a lot has changed over 45 years, like the depth of the slot in the screw being shallower.
